Research and Course Projects

§    Design and development of a polymer electromagnetic actuator for barcode reader applications. Cantilever and torsional scanner based actuators have been designed and developed as Master of Science research project. This project is funded by KUMPEM (Koc University – Migros Education Centre) and TUBITAK (Turkish Scientific and Research Council).

§    Design of a biaxial electromagnetic scanner for retinal scanning applications. Magnetic actuator is realized by permalloy electroplating on silicon biaxial scanner. This project is funded by Microvision Inc., USA.

§    Development of a magnetic characterization setup: BH Looper. In order to get BH loops (hysteresis curves) of magnetic materials a setup was built with the needed electronic circuitry.

§    Interferogram analysis software. Optical interferometric techniques have been implemented for measuring a wide range of physical parameters of micro structures such as displacement, strain, vibration, surface profile and refractive index. A program was written to get the out of plane position information by analyzing the 2-D fringe patterns. The program code was submitted as the Computer Vision course term project.

§    Beam Propagation Software. A program was written to model physical beam propagation using MATLAB as an Optical Information Processing course   project.

§    Design of anti-reflection coatings. Up to three layers of coatings were designed with the given materials to obtain the minimum reflectivity. The coating models were implemented with Mathematica as the Photonics course term project.

§    Traffic Control System. As the senior year project, a traffic control system was designed. The cars were supposed to find their route by following a line and they were supposed to get directions with RF transmission. The directions were given autonomously by a computer that calculates the shortest path to the destination.
